New Study Shows Publicly Funded Family Planning Clinics Provide Critical Care to Millions of Poor and Low-Income Women each year

A new nationally representative survey shows that the national network of publicly funded family planning clinics—which helps millions of women avoid unintended pregnancies and plan the timing of wanted pregnancies—gives women vital access to contraceptive and other preventive care, according to "Variation in Service Delivery Practices Among Clinics Providing Publicly Funded Family Planning Services in 2010," by Jennifer Frost et al.

Recent Press Coverage Linking Azithromycin to Increased Risk of Sudden Death

Several media outlets have reported on a study that links azithromycin to sudden death. Azithromycin is a commonly used antibiotic, often prescribed to treat respiratory infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Key CHC Funding Opportunity: Apply for New HRSA School Health Center Grant

Join CPCA for a webinar with the California School health Centers Association (CSHC) to learn how to apply in June for a construction, rennovation, or equipment grants for a new or existing school-based health center (SBHC)!  $75 million will be awarded to approximately 150 applicants, with a maximum award of $500,000.  Sponsoring community health centers and school districts are eligible to apply.  Previous SBHC Capital Grant recipients may apply again, but must apply for a different SBHC project.

2012 Male Health Educator Training

Nominations to attend the 2012 Male Health Educator Training Institute (15 - 20 July 2012), in Austin, Texas, are now being accepted!  Those interested in attending the 2012 Male Health Educator Training Institute, must answer "yes" to the following:

 

-          Are you employed by a Title X-funded agency or program?

-          Do at least 50% of your job duties involve DIRECT contact with males?

 

** Individuals who have attended before are NOT eligible to re-attend **

 

Those who are interested, will need to complete a Male HETI Nomination Form  (please include only one nominee per form). Email completed forms to your CFHC Area Manager by Monday, April 9, 2012. CFHC staff will review forms for completeness before submitting nominations to our Regional Program Consultant, Rebecca Meece, by April 16^th. Rebecca will then review all nominations from Region IX and submit a prioritized list of nominees to the Office of Family Planning Central Office. The OFP Central Office will make final decisions on attendance and notify all accepted nominees.

The CFHC Co-op has a contract set up for pharmaceuticals through two distributors, Anda and R&S and does not have contracted pricing for EC direct from either of the EC manufacturers (Watson or Teva). Negotiations began in January with both vendors, not only to establish a lower price agreement for EC (PHS and non PHS eligible health centers), but for all contraceptive methods manufactured by Watson (oral contraceptives), and Teva (oral contraceptives and ParaGard).  We will continue to work toward this goal for all of our Co-op members, nation-wide.

Please also note, that Co-op staff find out about issues (Examples: price increases, decreases, back orders and recalls) from our supply partners and our Co-op members, so keeping the line of information/communication open is crucial for us to stay on top of issues.  We appreciate your assistance!
