Important Change to CHW Loan Fund Requirement & CPCA Update on New Loans

I wanted to inform you about a change in the application requirement for the NCB Capital Impact-Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) Loan Fund.

Initially, the application process stipulated that clinics must include documentation from the state that verifies the amount clinics would be owed from Medi-Cal during the checkwrite delays in June and August.  This requirement has now been changed to require clinics to submit just their most recent Medi-Cal billings/receivables –  April, May or July for example – as the documentation needed to verify the amount of loans needed.

This change should allow clinics to apply for and receive sooner loans related to the 4 August check-write delays.

Below is an updated NCB-CHW Loan Term Sheet to be used in place of the document originally sent out by CPCA last week. There was an error in the first one which noted both a 1.10% and a 1% origination fee.  There is only a 1.1% origination fee plus $250 for documentation.

If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Kim Dempsey at NCB Capital Impact at kdempsey@ncbcapitalimpact.org or (510) 496-2228.

Additionally, CPCA has also received word on our loan requests from both Sisters of Mercy and Sutter Health. Sisters of Mercy has agreed to provide a loan in the amount of $300,000; Sutter has just today agreed to provide a loan of $5 Million. The following is a short summary of what the loan pools now available to community clinics:

Loans Secured:

  • Catholic Healthcare West - $5 Million
  • NCB Capital Impact - $1 Million
  • Sutter Health – $5 Million
  • Sisters of Mercy - $300,000

The exact details on the Sutter Health and Sister of Mercy loan funds are still being worked out and will be sent out at a later date.

CPCA is also still in the negotiating process with Untied-PacifiCare and will keep membership apprised as to any new developments.

If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to contact either myself or Chris Patterson at cpatterson@cpca.org.

New Fact Sheet on Adolescent Reproductive Health Available

ChildTrends has just released a new fact sheet entitled, "What Works for Adolescent Reproductive Health: Lessons from Experimental Evaluations of Programs and Interventions." This piece reviews the results of several programs, including those that are school and community-based, as well as those based in health centers and early childhood programs.

In all, more than 50 programs affiliated with LINKS (Lifecourse Interventions to Nurture Kids Successfully) were experimentally evaluated with regard to their impact on reproductive health. Measures included increased communication with parents, knowledge of anatomy and age of first initiation. The online resource also includes links to each evaluated program, which includes an overview, curriculum information and some preliminary evaluation information. Visit ChildTrends to learn more.
