Special Invitation During CPCA Annual Conference

We are pleased to announce that CPCA’s continued partnership with the next phase of The California Endowment’s Dental Pipeline Project (PDF, 72K). As a result of this participation, California Primary Care Association (CPCA) member clinics will have the opportunity to both provide feedback into the process of placing dental residents in community health clinics as well as share in best practices for expanding these efforts across the state.

In an effort to begin this important work, I would like to extend and invitation for you to attend and invitation-only meeting that will occur during the CPCA conference. During this meeting, clinic leadership and dental providers will meet to begin identifying strategies for outreach to clinics, training and technical assistance topics, and other issues related to structuring clinic dental practices so that clinics can absorb and implement (both financially and operationally) this type of program into their practice. University representatives will also be present during this meeting.

This meeting will occur from 11:15 am – 12:15 pm on Thursday, October 4, 2007 in room 307 at the Sacramento Convention Center. This meeting immediately follows the workshop entitled “The Clinic as a Classroom: Building Partnerships to Transform Oral Capacity” and takes place in the same room location.  The meeting will convene, and then meeting participants will have time to join the rest of the conference participants in the ballroom for the scheduled lunchtime program.

If you plan to attend this meeting, please contact Christina Foncree at cfoncree@cpca.org or 916.440.8170 by Tuesday, October 2, 2007.

For more information on The California Endowment’s Pipeline project, I have included an attachment announcing the current project (PDF, 72K). If you have any additional questions or feedback, please feel free to contact me directly.

I look forward to meeting you all at the October 4th meeting.

New Training Opportunity: HIPAA and Beyond: the Challenges of Electronic Media in the Healthcare Workplace

Camera phones. PDAs. Email. Blogging. GPS. Flash drives. Laptops.

The meteoric expansion of technology in the workplace raises many legal issues. Quick, easy access to information and swift communication between staff can help an organization run smoothly, cut down on overhead, and free up time and energy to concentrate on your goals. When the workplace is a health-care clinic, however, all this raises concerns about privacy, data security, and record retention – for you, your employees, and your patients.

As a service to providers, the California Family Health Council and Public Counsel Law Center invite you to attend a free seminar, featuring speakers from the law firms of Morrison Foerster and Paul Hastings. We’ll help you understand your rights and responsibilities as you use these exciting new technologies in your clinics.

Register early before the workshop is full! (PDF, 30K)

Deadline to register: October 17, 2007
Workshop Date: October 24, 2007
Location: Public Counsel Law Center, Los Angeles, CA

Topic Include employment and healthcare law considerations related to:

  • Cell phones, voice over internet protocol
  • Webcams, camera phones and other photographic devices
  • Blackberries, PDAs, E-Mail, Instant Messaging and Internet Use
  • Blogging and Electronic Bulletin Boards
  • Communications Decency Act
  • Data Security Breaches
  • Implications for E-Discovery
  • Email Retention Policies
  • Patient health information in electronic form

The Clinic Leadership Institute (CLI), a signature project of Blue Shield of California, will engage and prepare California’s community clinic leaders of tomorrow to be effective and passionate change agents in a rapidly evolving health care environment. CLI will accomplish this by strengthening and building the financial, management and executive leadership competencies of emerging leaders from community clinics. CLI will be selecting 25 emerging leaders to participate in their first year of the program (2008).  Applications will be available in September 2007.

For more information about the program, please contact Terri Kluzik at UCSF Center for the Health Professions at tkluzik@thecenter.ucsf.edu or (415) 502-4417
