The state's legislative session ended last Friday, September 9th. Governor Brown now has 30 days to act on the bills the legislature sent to his desk.
We are happy to report that the following California Family Health Council priority bills were enrolled and now await the Governor's consideration:
AB 499 (Atkins) will fix a gap in existing law by allowing minors to consent to and receive medical services to prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
AB 568 (Skinner) seeks to improve and standardize restraint policies for pregnant inmates to reduce risks to the woman and her pregnancy.
AB 1296 (Bonilla) would streamline and simplify eligibility and enrollment for the Exchange, Healthy Families and Medi-Cal as required by federal law. This bill would establish the Eligibility, Enrollment and Retention System for state health subsidy programs as required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
SB 41 (Yee) seeks to allow pharmacists and physicians the discretion to furnish syringes as part of the state's comprehensive approach to preventing the spread of HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.
SB 299 (Evans) will ensure that employer-provided health care coverage is continued for women on Pregnancy Disability Leave.
TAKE ACTION! Personalize and send these sample letters to the Governor urging him to sign these important health bills!
