Family PACT waiver in today’s news

DATE:  April 4, 2007
TO:    Delegate Agencies, Board of Directors, Advocates and Staff
FROM:  Jody Leibman, Director of Public Policy
RE:    FYI - Family PACT waiver in today’s news

Articles today in the Los Angeles Daily News and the Sacramento Bee – “Cut Birth Control for Illegal Immigrants” and “Federal Limits Urged on Contraceptive Aid” - address the current impasse between California and the federal government regarding the extension of the Family PACT waiver beyond April 30, 2007.

Both articles quote Stan Rosenstein, Director of Medi-Cal, and Kathy Kneer, President of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, and include statistics regarding the impact on patients and high projected costs of citizenship documentation as required by the Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) if implemented in California.

CFHC urges you to take a moment to review the articles as you may receive press inquiries concerning these issues as they relate to your agency, clinic, and/or community.

The Sacramento Bee article can be accessed by clicking on the following link.
